Passion Project Question: Where do the most earthquakes happen and why?
I learned that Alaska has the most earthquakes and that they can have up too 24,000 a year! The reason why is because Alaska is in a place where two major tectonic plates one continental and the other oceanic they often bump into each other. The plates are giant slabs of rock under the Earth's surface. They float below the surface like ice floating on water. When they crash into each other we feel it as earthquakes. These crashes are reminders that the Earth is still growing, especially in Alaska.
